Summer Work & Travel Program

The Summer Work & Travel Program for Chinese university students in the United States is a well-established cultural exchange initiative sponsored by the U.S. government. With a history of over 60 years, it has run successfully across Europe, the Americas and other parts of Asia before being introduced to mainland China. Every year, around 150,000 international participants come to the United States on J-1 visas during summer vacation. They take up short-term paid positions for three months, while getting the chance to travel around the country and experience local life. This program allows participants to learn about American culture, traditions and lifestyle in a direct and authentic way.
